BOSSES at a wedding venue in Daubhill have told of their frustration as residents criticise the felling of more than 100 trees.

Asad Khan, manager at the 3D Centre in Bella Street, said he understood the complaints and confirmed that the business would be planting new trees and greenery but that plans could not begin until planning permission on a new fence was approved.

The dispute has been ongoing since December of last year when the trees were first cut down and the fence erected without council planning permission.

Tracey Williams, who lives on nearby Oakford Walk, said the problems stemmed from a lack of communication and that representatives of the wedding centre had not kept residents aware of their plans.

However, Mr Khan, said: “We are as frustrated as anyone about this, we want to finish the work and we will plant new trees for cosmetic purposes.”

He went on to explain that the trees had been cut down in part to the combat anti-social behaviour and burglaries that had occurred, with some people climbing the trees and jumping the old fence.

Bolton Council previously confirmed that no approval was needed to cut down the trees, none of which were subject to protection orders, but that a planning application will have to be made for the fence.

However, Ms Williams, aged 53, said: “It’s a disgrace, it looks awful and there used to be a lot of wildlife there which has now gone.

“On top of that, there has been no communication between us and the wedding centre.”
