A PUB is serving up free meals to Macmillan nurses to thank them for their hard work.

The Bee Hive Greene King pub on Chorley New Road, Lostock, is inviting all Macmillan professionals to enjoy free meals.

To claim the meal, Macmillan nurses and professionals simply need to show their Macmillan or NHS ID at the Bee Hive.

Chris Hunter, general manager at the Bee Hive, said: "The support that Macmillan staff offer not only those with cancer, but their close family and friends too, is greatly appreciated and makes such a difference in the local community.

"For this reason, it is our absolute pleasure to offer Macmillan professionals free meals to say thank you for everything that they do to help. With International Nurse’s Day falling in May, we decided that it would be a great opportunity to focus our Macmillan May fundraising initiative on celebrating the great work that nurses do.

"There are a number of tasty dishes available, including items from our new menu, such as chickpea and sweet potato curry, chicken and mushroom pie, chicken skewers your way and chip shop supper."

Since partnering with Macmillan in 2012, Greene King team members and guests have raised almost £4 million for the charity – from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning, to running the London Marathon and jumping out of planes.

Rachel Gascoigne, partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "Our nurses and other professionals work hard to help people living with cancer, not just with medical support, but also providing much needed emotional and practical support, so it’s wonderful to see their work recognised on International Nurses’ Day.

"We want to thank the Bee Hive and everyone at Greene King for their generosity in helping to show our professionals how much their work is appreciated throughout Macmillan May - a month long fundraiser, which will see Greene King pubs across the country coming together to support the charity. This is a truly lovely gesture and a brilliant way to kick off our seventh year as Greene King’s national charity partner."
