FAMILIES enjoyed a regal day out in the sun at the weekend as Barrow Bridge Mission held a 'royal' duck race.
It is the fourth time the event has been held, and around 150 people turned out on Sunday, and managed to raise more than £300 for charity.
Organisers donated the money to Bolton Hospice and Street Games, a charity also supported by newly-wed royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The race was held in a stream close to the mission in Barrow Bridge Road, where visitors paid for a duck, named it and entered it into one of 12 competitions.
Children then watched on as their plastic ducks competed to float fastest downstream, with the winners awarded a duck keyring.
Carolyn Rigby, chairman of the leadership team at Barrow Bridge Mission, said: "The races went really well and the sunshine was beautiful. We got a lot of people saying how much fun they had."
The duck race was part of a range of events that the mission puts on to raise money for charities, with the next being a Party in the Park in Moss Bank Park on June 17.
Barrow Bridge Mission is part of St Peter’s Parish, Halliwell
As well as holding church services, it offers bible-based teaching as well as holy communion and a healing service. Children’s teaching is also available.
