A PENSIONER was arrested for pornography offences after police found a film of him watching indecent videos with another man.

Bolton Crown Court heard that, on June 16, 2016, police raided a flat in Rogerstead, Bolton, and seized a computer belonging to Jason Charlton.

Charlton subsequently pleaded guilty to indecent images offences and was sentenced to a two-year community order.

But Daniel Calder, prosecuting, said that, on his computer was a video of him with another man watching videos of children.

The man was identified as 68-year-old Roland Edwards and, on June 22 last year, police searched his home in Wigan Road, Deane.

They found two videos of children, rated as the most obscene category A, eight category C photographs and six category C videos.

Edwards pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children and one offence of distributing indecent images of children.

Mr Calder said one of the category C videos involved a 10-year-old girl and, in text messages Edwards discussed a child in explicit sexual terms.

Edwards, who has no previous convictions, initially denied accessing and downloading images of children.

Hayley Bennett, defending, said: "The process of accepting and examining his own behaviour has been a sobering and lengthy experience."

She added that he has expressed "deep shame and remorse" and his wife of 53 years is standing by him.

Judge Graeme Smith sentenced Edwards to two years in jail, suspended for two years and ordered him to undertake 160 hours of unpaid work as well as participating in 40 days of rehabilitation activities.

The judge told Edwards he had been using the photographs for his own sexual gratification.

"I accept what has happened will cause significant problems for you," the judge told him. "They are entirely of your own making."

Edwards was also placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years, will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years and must pay £400 towards prosecution costs.
