MORE Streets in Farnworth's town centre will be closed from tonight as Bolton Council begins new roadworks.

The work centres around the junction of Market Street and King Street, where upgrades relating to a new bus shelter have been ongoing since the beginning of the year.

Council officials say the closures are down to overnight resurfacing and will effect a stretch of Market Street between King Street and Nelson Street from tonight until June 15.

King Street is already closed to vehicles at the junction but to enable the overnight work to take place safely, a number of nearby side streets will be also closed.

Executive cabinet member for highways and transport, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “Once this work is complete it will make a really positive difference to commuters.

“We understand the work could cause some disruption but we have programmed the major resurfacing work to take place overnight.

“We would like to thank everyone for bearing with us while the work takes place.”

In addition, the junction of Gladstone Road and Market Street will be resurfaced between 8am and 5pm on 16 and 17 June.

Market Street between Gladstone Road and King Street will also be resurfaced from 9.30am to 3.30pm, between 18 June and 20 July, with temporary traffic signals will be in operation throughout these works.

The junction work is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement programme.

The Gladstone Road to King Street resurfacing work is funded from the council’s annual resurfacing programme.
