A GRANDMOTHER and grandson duo are undertaking the Midnight Memories Walk.

Wendy Taylor, aged 60 from Farnworth is undetaking the eight-mile walk with the help of her grandson Josh Constantine, aged 16.

Mrs Taylor, will be walking as much of the route as she can and Josh will push her in a wheelchair when she needs a break.

Mrs Taylor is a current day patient of Bolton Hospice, she was diagnosed with lung and bone cancer in August 2017 and has undergone various treatment including chemotherapy.

In January she became very ill, she was unable to eat and was extremely poorly.

Her Macmillan nurse referred her to the Bolton Hospice inpatient ward, after a week of care and support her symptoms were managed and she was able to eat again allowing her to return to her family home.

Mrs Taylor said: "I enjoy coming to the hospice so much, nothing is ever too much trouble, and there is such a positive attitude.

"It has become my social club! I particularly enjoy making the crafts and even get the chance to enjoy a glass of wine!

"The meals are lovely and I always have a great laugh. There is no sadness at all which is what people always think about when you say ‘hospice’, I can vouch for the fact there’s a lot of fun, and a lot of support, which is definitely what I needed!”

The Midnight Memories Walk is an 8-mile sponsored walk to raise vital funds for Bolton Hospice and is kindly sponsored by Stateside Foods. Those taking part can walk in memory of a loved one, to support the hospice or as a survivor of a life-limiting illness.

Mrs Taylor is walking it as a survivor.

The route starts at the Market Place and takes you past the hospice on Chorley New Road. There is a pit-stop at Meadowhill Nursery for refreshments before taking on the second half of the loop. The route ends back at the Market Place where walkers will receive a medal and time to reflect on what this night has meant to them.

The walk starts at 10pm on June 16 and all walkers can choose a lantern that best represents why they are taking part, and this year the hospice are introducing brightly coloured t-shirts to mirror the lanterns.

Pink for those walking in memory of a loved one, blue to support Bolton Hospice, or yellow for those surviving a life threatening illness.
