MORE opportunities will be available to adults in Greater Manchester to improve their skills.
As part of the 2015 devolution deal it was greed the region could take control of its adult education budget from 2019/20.
Cllr Sean Fielding, Leader of Oldham Council has been named Greater Manchester's new lead for education, skills and work.
He said: "Everyone in Greater Manchester should have the chance to get the skills they need to succeed and I’m determined to make that happen. Adult skills are a key part of our plans to help people get on."
Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said: "Sean takes on this role at an exciting time when we’re moving closer to gaining some of the powers we need to improve skills training across Greater Manchester."
