IN the week of the NHS' 70th anniversary a Bolton MP has spoken out against what he calls back door privatisation.

Sir David Crausby is worried about hospital trusts setting up subsidiary companies which then take on NHS staff.

Sir David, MP for Bolton North East, said: "I don’t want NHS employees split up to work for a separate company.

"It leaves the back door open to privatisation and creates a two-tier system that undermines staff pay, terms and conditions.

"The government need to stop this practice and ensure that our NHS is properly funded so it can deliver good quality health services in the public interest without these money saving schemes that undermine standards."

Sir David has signed an Early Day Motion in Parliament to highlight the issue.

The Motion calls on the government to block the creation of any further NHS wholly-owned subsidiary companies and guarantee the continuation of the current pay banding system and access to the NHS Pension Scheme for all NHS staff, whether providing clinical or non-clinical services
