SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS echoed around Walmsley Parish Hall as the village's primary school children took to the stage to perform Mary Poppins.

The youngsters entertained parents and staff members with their adaptation of the 1964 musical for their end-of-year production earlier in July.

Aimee Cove played the eponymous character while the Banks family were played by George Dyke (Mr. Banks), Millie Brierley (Mrs. Banks), Jonah Murphy (Michael Banks) and Anna Haworth (Jane Banks).

A spokesman for the school said: "We sometimes forget that our actors are aged only seven to eleven years as they rise so magnificently to any challenge set them. Once they set their minds to it, the obstacles start disappearing.

"Excellent performances were given by all."

The production, which ran from July 4 to July 6, was created by Kat Worsley, producer, and musical director Dawn Hitchen.

It consisted of about 125 key stage two youngsters at Walmsley Primary School who were helped by former pupils Alex Alldred, Jacob Berry and Francesca Carr.

The spokesman added: "We are again indebted to Walmsley Church Amateur Dramatic Society for their advice and support with staging and lighting.

"It is so good to be able to work together with our local am dram society and in such a fantastic venue as our local parish hall."

Donations were taken during the show's run for the firefighters and Bolton Mountain Rescue who were tackling the blaze at Winter Hill. A total of £671.07 was collected for the cause.
