ANOTHER issue raised by several members at the inaugural meeting of Friends of Moses Gate was the impact that the new Sughra Mosque has had on parking in nearby areas including visitors double parking on nearby roads.

They raised concerns about the sale of council-owned land in Egerton Street used by the mosque as a car park.

One resident asked: “Is the money going to be spent back in Moses Gate and will we all benefit from it?”

Cllr Flitcroft confirmed that the land was sold by the council for £56,750 but she had not yet received an answer about where this money would be spent.

Mr Clarke said that he wanted to invite elders from the mosque to the meeting, but there was a concern about them not wanting to enter a licensed premises.

He said that he was in touch with members of the community and hopes to meet with them soon to discuss residents’ concern in the near future.
