LAST week’s picture was an easy one for two of our readers to recognise.

George Horrocks had no problem spotting the picture was of the old pavilion at Queens Park as he used to work there as a gardener.

Also correct was Ron Wadeson who tells us: “I sheltered there many times on a rainy day.

“I spent many happy days there in the 1940s and 1950s.”

Queens Park was opened on May 24 1866 by Lord Bradford and provided town dwellers with the opportunity to enjoy gorgeous open spaces with pretty plants and a lake to take a walk around.

It gave mill workers the chance to spend time in the fresh air away from their looms and the noise and hustle and bustle of the mills.

Bolton would be filled with smoke and the green spaces in the park would be a welcome break from that.
