Open day at Bolton fire station, Bolton Fire Station, Moor Lane, Today 11am-4pm

Bolton Central Community Fire Station are holding their annual summer open day from 11am to 4pm on Saturday August 11th. This free event is an opportunity for the fire service to thank the Bolton community for their overwhelming support and generous donations during and following the moorland fires on Winter Hill.

Attendees will get to see old vehicles, uniforms, fire engines and there will even be a chance to ride on a hydraulic platform. Through out the day there will also be CPR and rope rescue demonstrations.

Smithills Summer Tree ID from Barrow Bridge car park at 10am on Saturday

Discover the hidden world of summertime trees. These silent giants have much more going on beneath the bark than we can see. The workshop will look into how to identify trees by looking at the shape, colour and texture of their leaves.
 Booking via woodlandtrust.org.uk is essential and guests are advised to bring appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear and a packed lunch. Hot drinks and toilet facilities are provided.
 Guests are asked not to bring dogs unless absolutely nessecary and the route includes at least one flight of stairs within the woodland.
 Sgt. Stubby: An Unlikely Hero, Bolton Cineworld, Showing from today

Sgt. Stubby: An Unlikely Hero will be screening in Bolton's Cineworld from Friday. It's based on the incredible, real-life story of America’s most decorated dog, a stray who was rescued from the streets by a young recruit on the eve of America’s entry into World War I. A stubby-tailed pup soon finds himself in the trenches of France, embarking on an historic adventure.

Leigh Community 10K, Leigh Town Centre, Sunday 9.30am

The second Leigh Community 10K will take place on Sunday with 1,000 runners already signed up to take part.

Friendsfest, Heaton Park, Daily 10.45am-10pm until August 12
