WHILE the former Woolworths building is still recognisable from these views down Mealhouse Lane, much has changed.
The photograph above was taken in 1964, with the photographer taking the snap where Crompton Place now stands.
Surrounded by scaffolding is the Ikin’s old print works.
The part of the street in the foreground disappeared into the development and the rest of the street has now been pedestrianised, allowing a place for the mobile takeaway food van. Woolworths, on Deansgate, visible at the end of the street, shut in more recent years to be replaced by Wilko.
The building at the top left of the street, was redeveloped to become the Marks and Spencer department store.
