A YOUTH club has brightened up its home by having the children paint their own mural on the outside of the building.

Organisers at Zac's Youth Bar, in Market Street, Farnworth, had an artist visit the site and teach the youngsters how to create their own piece, which will now be a permanent fixture at the group's headquarters.

The project is organised by Christian charity, The Sycamore Project, which provides free activities and guidance to young people, with special programmes over the school holidays.

Paul Saxon, chaplain at Zac's, said he felt that allowing the children to paint their own piece - alongside professional artist Sie King - would give them a sense of ownership over the building.

He explained: "We have recently got new signs and our shutter was really looking tired, so we got Sie King in to give the kids a workshop and help them work on the shutter.

"In the end, they did around 80pc of the work and he added some finishing touches. They worked really hard, especially because a lot of them are new to Zac's over the Summer holidays. They were really enthusiastic and helpful and they just got stuck in.

"The kids drawing this mural makes it their own and it will stay there for the whole of the public to see, I think it's a good representation of what the club is all about."

Mr King helped the youngsters to design the piece, showing them how to draw in his style on paper first before allowing the group to begin painting the shutters on the outside of the building.
