A MAN who had been living in a pub doorway after breaching restraining orders to prevent him making contact with his mother has been given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

Brandon Brooks, 20, of Chorley New Road, appeared by direct video link from prison at Forest Bank to answer the breach of two restraining orders.

They were put in place against him to prevent contact with his mother who described her life in a victim impact statement as “being a prisoner in my own home” adding “It feels like I have no freedom”, Bolton Magistrates Court was told.

Brooks had had a settled environment until his mother was evicted and moved in with a new partner, who didn’t get along with her son, the court heard

Brooks had been forced to spend his time living on the streets and the breaches were committed out of desperation when going to his mother’s new address to ask for accommodation or money.

It was said that the breaches were more of a nuisance than a threat and his big problem was immaturity.

After he was released from police custody, he had nowhere to go and was living in the doorway of a town centre pub asking for money, getting arrested and the cycle began all over again.

The chairman of the magistrates bench Ms Rahia Akram said: “You need to grow up. Your solicitor has said that you are an immature young man.”

Brandon who found new accommodation last week was also given a six month curfew order between the hour of 7pm and 7am.
