FIREFIGHTERS who battled a car blaze in Kearsley had to call a second crew from another station when they noticed another fire had also been started.
The initial incident, which occurred at around 6am this morning, began with reports to Farnworth Fire Station of a pair of cars that had been set alight close to the Fishbrook Industrial Estate on Stoneclough Road.
Once they reached the scene, the crew found that a second blaze had been started at a nearby car garage, where someone appeared to have rolled a tyre around from the back of the building and set it on fire close to a number of parked cars.
A further crew from Bolton Central Station was then called out and the pair were able to bring both fires under control.
However, Farnworth watch manager Craig Cubbins slammed the fire starters, saying car fires can damage the environment, and cost the council money, as well as stopping fire crews dealing with other incidents.
He said: "It looks as though the cars have been dumped there, on Stoneclough Road, and then we were told that they were on fire at about six am this morning.
"There's a massive environmental impact from car fires and the cost to the council of removing them is also huge. People should be mindful of that.
"Plus, if we are out on malicious incidents like this we might not be able to get to other fires."
Police were also called to the scene after the fire crews decided the blazes had been started deliberately. However, the two fires have not been linked.
The first fire involved a pair of green vehicles, a people carrier and a Ford, which are thought to have been left in the car park of the former Vauxhall Spares garage around a week ago.
Nobody was hurt in either incident.
The fires follow a number of other car blazes in Farnworth and Kearsley this month, including an incident in Park View that saw a vehicle completely destroyed by flames.
