Bolton is home to some of the best bakeries around.

It's official. Earlier this year TripAdvisor users actually named two Bolton firms as their favourite bakeries in Greater Manchester.

This week, we look at five of your favourites. In no particular order, here they are...

Carrs Pasties

Carrs Pasties is one of the most beloved brands to come out of Bolton.

The firm, which started in 1938, moved to its purpose-built factory in Manchester Road in 1975, where it has a production facility and a shop.

Passed down through three generations, Bolton is at the heart of everything they do and some of the staff have been with them for more than 30 years, serving, baking, producing and delivering their products to thousands of happy customers.

They have four bakeries in Bolton and a number of retailers around the north west.

The original meat and potato pasty is where it all started but the lineup has been extended over the years.

Make sure you try their newest product, the delectable cheese and jalapeno pasty.

Greenhalgh’s Bakery

Greenhalgh’s has been a mainstay in Bolton for more than 60 years.

Allan Smart founded the company in 1957 and the firm has since become one of Bolton’s biggest employers, with around 950 workers across two manufacturing sites and 63 shops. The original Greenhalgh’s Bakery Shop was owned by James Greenhalgh and was bought in the 1940s by the Bolton Palais de Danse Company to supply their dance hall with treats.

Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe, Churchgate, Bolton.

Earlier this year Trip Advisor users named Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe the best bakery in Greater Manchester.

The shop first opened back in 1898, and has been in the same family ever since.

Marie Walsh currently owns the shop and its reputation is as strong as ever, with one TripAdvisor user saying it is a “must visit place for anyone coming the town.”

Nafees Bakers and Sweets, Deane Road, Bolton.

Nafees Bakers have been serving their customers since 1979 and have become among the largest Asian confectionery producers in Europe.

The firm, which has a branch in Bolton, produces baked goods, snacks, savouries, biscuits, signature rusks and cakes. Certainly a bit different to your run-of-the-mill bakers.

Mannings, Ramsbottom.

Manning’s Bakers was set up in 1947 by Michael Manning.

Michael ran a fish and chip shop, but growing increasingly fed up with the quality of pies being supplied, he started to bake them himself. From there, Manning’s Bakers was born.

There are a number of branches around the region, including in Bridge Street, Ramsbottom.
