A 16-year-old has been jailed for murder after a teenager was stabbed to death in Moss Side.

Shayne Stewart, whose address cannot be published for legal reasons, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

He was also found guilty of three counts of grievous bodily harm, receiving a seven year prison sentence to be served concurrently.

On August 8 last year police were called to reports of fighting on Crosshill Street, Moss Side, and found 18-year-old Sait Mboob with stab wounds to his back and arms and another stab wound to his leg which had severed an artery. He died in the early hours of the following day.

Two 17-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man were also stabbed and suffered serious injuries.

Stewart was one of five men and 17-year-old Kiahus Baddoo, whose address also cannot be published for legal reasons, who were jailed for the murder of Sait Mboob at Manchester Crown Court.

The others were:

- Lequornne Morgan, aged 19, of Gregory’s Road, Manchester

- Husam Ghazanfar, aged 19, of Delaheys Range, Gorton

- Laif Morgan, aged 23, of Paddock Street, Manchester

- Requan Brown, aged 19, of Higher Ardwick, Manchester.

- Ryan Isaacs, aged 19, of no fixed abode

The court heard how Mr Mboob and his friends had been outside a shop in Moss Side and heard a criminal gang were threatening violence in the area, when two cars drove at speed towards the group hitting Mr Mboob and the other victims.

The cars' occupants then jumped out and attacked the group with knives and machetes.

Another man, 18-year-old Emil Bell, was also sentenced to a minimum of 17 years in prison for the murder of Sait Mboob earlier this year.
