POLICE are continuing to investigate after a woman narrowly avoided being shot when gunmen fired at her home in Daubhill.

At about 10.30pm on Thursday, two men wearing black clothes fired several shots at the front door of a property in Eastwood Close, off Hulton Lane, before running away.

The woman, who was in her bedroom when she heard the shots, was not injured, but police say she has been left terrified by the ordeal.

Damage was sustained to the door and windows of the woman’s property during the gunfire.

A police investigation was launched into the incident and officers sealed off a stretch of the close on Friday.

Crime scene investigators and a tactical aid unit remained on the scene throughout the day, combing the area for information and evidence.

However, no arrests have been made so far.

Detective Inspector Neil Lawless, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton CID, said: “This was a dangerous attack which could have had devastating consequences if the woman was downstairs at the time.

“To be in your own home and to hear shots fired at your door would have been utterly terrifying and I’m just grateful this woman wasn’t injured.

“From enquiries so far we believe this was a planned attack. However, we are still trying to establish the motive behind this incident.

“I’d appeal to anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the attack to please contact police.”

Following the incident, residents reported hearing around three loud bangs that sounded like fireworks on Thursday night.

The incident has left members of the community concerned, with some fearing it may have been a targeted attack.

One resident said: “To think that someone may have been targeted without knowing why is concerning and I am worried. I’m just glad that no one has been hurt.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Bolton CID on 0161 856 5757 quoting incident number 2104 of September 6 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
