BEING outdoors has just become a lot more fun at Brownlow Fold Primary School.

Children starting back after the summer break were thrilled to discover they now had benches and picnic tables to eat and socialise as well as two large planters to add some colour thanks to a donation by charity Eammus, which heard of the school's appeal for help to transform the grounds into a fun creative environment for pupils.

Headteacher Julie Hignett said: " We have just received a lovely donation of benches, picnic tables and two large planters from the charity Eammus. They have very kindly made and donated several items for us which we are extremely grateful for.

"The children love sitting on the benches and chatting to their friends at break times. Our new planters look fabulous too."

The charity provides a home and work to those who are homeless or have experience social exclusion. It's donation has provided a great start to the appeal, which was launched in the summer term.

The school is working to improve the grounds after major improvement works at school were completed.

Mrs Hignett said: "The outdoor areas at Brownlow Fold are barren, dull and lack stimulation, creativity and physical challenge for our children. The two playgrounds that we have, are two big areas of concrete, with unusable muddy wooded areas. Whilst we are very fortunate to have extensive grounds at Brownlow Fold they are not fit for purpose and are a barrier to the children’s learning. We would like to enhance the provision of our outdoor area significantly as appropriate and inspiring outdoor provision is imperative for all children."

She said that outdoor helps young people develop.

Mrs Hignett asked anyone who can help develop the school grounds to match the new remodelled building to contact the school.

She said: "We have quite an extensive wish list but as a school, we feel that all the pupils at Brownlow Fold would benefit significantly from the enhancement of our outdoor areas and your support could help us achieve our vision.

"If you have any plants, shrubs, containers or anything that we can use at Brownlow Fold that you would be willing to donate to our outdoor provision we will gladly collect them from you."
