THREE people had to be rescued by firefighters after a kitchen blaze at their Little Hulton home.

The incident, on Greenheys Road, occurred at lunchtime and was caused by a chip pan fire.

Fire crews from Farnworth, Bolton Central and Atherton spent 90 minutes at the scene.

Watch manager at Farnworth Fire Station, Mr Andrew Turner, said: "Three adults - two men and a woman - were led to safety from the house.

"They were checked for smoke inhalation and tended by a paramedic but they declined medical treatment."

Mr Turner said the fire had destroyed the cooker and damaged the kitchen.

He said: "The rest of the house suffered some smoke damage."

This morning also saw a fire at a home in Pimlott Road, Bolton, caused by a plugged in appliance that had overheated.

A fire crew from Bolton Central and Farnworth spent 90 minutes at the house.

Crew manager Mark Hoare of Bolton Central Fire Station said: "We arrived at 8.45 to find the family had self-rescued. Fortunately, they had been alerted by their smoke alarms.

A third fire occurred at 3pm at a flat in Bromwich Street, caused by a plastic container being accidentally left on a hob and melting.

The property suffered extensive smoke damage.
