IT is 102 years since bombs fell on this street in Bolton.

Around 20 bombs dropped on the Kirk Street area in the night of September 25 1916 during World War One.

In this area 13 people were killed and six houses destroyed.

It is remarkable to think that anyone got out of this bomb site alive.

The tragedy was mourned not only locally but much further afield and people travelled miles to pay their respects and view the devastation apparently.

When the gigantic German airship — a naval Zeppelin L21, flew over Bolton — it would not have been heard by the families who were to fall. Zeppelins were virtually silent, but deadly, machines that would bring devastation to Bolton.
