A 37-year-old man is fighting for his life after a rush hour crash on Crompton Way.

Police are appealing for information after a man driving a red Vauxhall Astra suffered serious injuries in a collision with a blue Scania Irizar coach carrying schoolchildren.

The collision happened near the Toby Carvery at the junction of Crompton Way and Seymour Road at 8.17am on Tuesday, September 11.

The road was closed by police for nearly five hours, resulting in severe traffic delays.

The driver of the Vauxhall was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The Scania coach driver remained at the scene to assist officers with police enquiries.

No arrests were made.

Police Constable John Harrison-Gough of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a very serious incident that has left a man fighting for his life.

“Our thoughts remain with him and his family at this difficult time.

“We are building a picture of what happened and it is essential that anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or saw the vehicles prior to the collision contact police immediately.”
