A DAHL-ICIOUSLY delightful and magical day was enjoyed by primary school youngsters as they celebrated the birthday of popular children's author Roald Dahl.

Year Two pupils and staff at Eagley Infant School, and children across Bolton, marked Roald Dahl day in the most scrumdiddlyumptious way possible.

And visitors to the Bromley Cross school may have found themselves doing double takes as they saw everyone from the Big Friendly Giant to the Oompa-Loompas walking to class yesterday morning.

Roald Dahl is marked annually on September 13. This year he would have been 102-years-old.

Jo Field, Year Two teacher, who came dressed a witch from The Witches, said: "The children came dressed as so may different characters — Matilda, Crocodile, James from the Giant Peach, Oompa-Loompas.They all looked fantastic and were so excited about the day. They looked wonderful walking into assembly."

The other teachers dressed up as characters from The Twits, Matilda, and the Enormous Crocodile. And the day could not have been more perfect to start the new academic year. For the children will be reading books by Roald Dahl, with teachers having transformed the classroom into a magical and inspiration place of learning.

"We have created Roald Dahl's writing shed and the Big Friendly Giant's cave which has jars of children's dreams and aspirations," said Mrs Field.

Activities themed round Dahl's books will include designing a poster to catch The Enormous Crocodile and writing pieces to convince the crocodile not to each children but other "dahl-icious" treats.

Mrs Field added: "At the end we will all go and see Matilda."
