A 47-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of murder and assault. He remains in custody for questioning this morning.

Detective inspector Neil Haywood of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of the man who has died as they deal with this incredibly sad news.

“A scene will remain in place at a house on Aldersyde Street today as we continue with our enquiries and officers will be in and around the area.

“Some of them may wish to speak to you as part of our routine enquiries but please, if you know something that could help us or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around 7.30 last night, make sure you let us know. “

The area is expected to remain sealed off throughout the morning.

The Bolton News:

The resident of flat, whose identity remains unknown, only moved to the area as a tenant of Bolton at Home around six weeks ago.

Residents in the surrounding streets have previously reported seeing and hearing some anti-social behaviour issues outside the flat, including loud noises.

The area poice sergeant spoke to ward councillors about the death.

Harper Green councillor, Susan Haworth, said: “It is particularly worrying to be informed about this very serious crime and death of a person at Aldersyde Street. Condolences to the family and to those who knew the person that has died.

"Residents and visitors to the street will see police tape at the flats, officers in attendance and various police and forensic vehicles. Police are on foot protecting entry to the crime scene and this may be for many hours ahead so I would ask the community to be understanding of this.

"Councillors are grateful for the contact about the crime from the area police sergeant.”
