MOTORISTS are facing delays after a lorry overturned on a slip road.

The incident happened at junction 12 of the M62 eastbound shortly after 9am this morning.

Police attended the scene, as well as firefighters, and discovered the lorry driver trapped in the vehicle.

He was eventually freed, and was reported to be conscious and breathing.

The link road from the M62 to the M60 anti-clockwise, at the Eccles Interchange, has been closed as a result of the incident.

Drivers on the M62 are faced with lengthy queues of up to 40 minutes back to junction 11 for Birchwood.

The vehicle is currently in the process of being recovered.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were called at 9:14am today to the M62 west link road to the M60 clockwise to reports of a road traffic collision involving a HGV, which had overturned.

"The driver was trapped and fuel had spilt onto the carriageway.

“Three appliances from Irlam, Eccles and Salford attended. The man was freed from the vehicle and was conscious and breathing, he was treated at the scene by a fire service Major Trauma Technician before being handed to NWAS for further treatment.

"Crews also sealed drains and worked with the Highways Agency to clean up the fuel spill.”
