THIEVES targeted a bakery shop in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to The Bakery on the Lane, in Ainsworth Lane, Tonge Moor, shortly after 3.25am this morning to a report of a burglary.

Unknown offenders gained entry to the premises by breaking a glass pane on a door, before conducting an untidy search.

An eyewitness reported seeing two men smash through the door, and head towards the back of the store.

She added: "I heard a lot of smashing, and saw them come back to the front and try to smash open the till, then they went back out the broken window and ran across the road.

"They were in dark clothes, hoods up and either wearing white trainers or the soles were white."

Police say enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
