MORE than £100,000 in extra funding has been released for “essential works” to be carried out on a soon-to-open new children’s centre.

Bolton Council’s children’s chief, Cllr Ann Cunliffe has give the go-ahead for a further £128,000 to be spent at the new Start Well hub in Farnworth.

The authority has already invested £350,000 in transforming the King Street base, but additional funds are needed to make it fit for purpose when it opens either later this month or in early October.

The works includes creating a new lobby and reception area as well as 15 new parking spaces.

Cllr Cunliffe said: “I have approved finances for additional works because we identified some essential work that needed to be done to complete the scheme. Any extra money is being approved and spent for the benefit of future users of the King Street Start Well Centre.”

The centre will continue to offer youth services, but also provide play and learn sessions, parenting support, Well Baby Clinics and other activities.
