A giant tuna that weighs more than a grand piano has been turning heads in Bolton.
The monster catch took pride of place at MPJ Fish Supplies at Bolton Market yesterday and caused quite a stir.
The 372kg fish, which costs £4,000, is 10 times the size of an average tuna and it took six people to carry it to the stall.
Michael Evans, owner of MPJ, who has been in the business for more than 40 years, said: “This is the biggest I have ever seen.”
A normal sized tuna sold at the stall weighs around 30kg.
Bolton Market has housed MPJ Fish supplies for more than 10 years and in that time they have surprised shoppers with a number of unusual finds over the years, including a giant halibut and even a super-sized shark.
The giant tuna was supplied by Oban Fish Supplies, which caught blue fin off the Faroe Islands ‘by accident’, according to Michael.
The fish will be sold on to restaurants and wholesalers in Manchester and Bolton.
