A MUM of who lost her baby boy to cot death eight years ago has reached a landmark target in supporting a cause close to her heart.

Spencer Downey died at the age of 24 weeks at his home in Astley on September 15, 2010.

Since his death, his family received support from The Lullaby Trust, a charity which raises awareness of cot deaths and helps families who have suffered bereavements. It also has a safer sleep campaign.

His mum Vikki, 38, along with family, friends and businesses in the area had raised more than £13,000 for the charity in his name.

Last Sunday, the day after the anniversary of Spencer’s death, Vikki, who runs her own business called DVB Fitness with her partner Darren, organised a sponsored “boogie bounce” on mini trampolines at Gym28 in Astley.

Vikki's three other children Elliot, 17, and Gabrielle, 16, and Esther, six, also took part in the “boogie bounce” challenge which raised more than £2,500 and sailed past a target of £15,000 that she was hoping to break.

Vikki added: “The event was amazing and we had about 40 people who joined in throughout the day from 8am and 4pm.

"I'm thankful to everyone who took part in the event.

"The amount of money that has been donated has also been overwhelming."

A crowdfunding page has been set up in aid of The Lullaby Trust. To donate to it click here.
