ARMED police officers were called to an incident outside Stockport College, on the A6.
The road through the town centre was shut off for about one hour on Saturday afternoon.
Traffic was diverted away from the area. A diversion was also in place for bus routes.
A police cordon was put in place.
Transport for Greater Manchester referred to it as a police incident but no other details have been released at this stage.
Due to a Police incident Wellington Road South is closed in both directions between Greek Street and Stockport College. Please find an alternative route. #TfGMTraffic

The A6 has since been reopened.
