DRIVERS look set for a frustrating week on the roads with a host of road improvement schemes planned in and around Bolton.

To help you plan ahead, here is a list of the new and ongoing roadworks which could cause hold-ups in and around Bolton this coming week:

Darwen Road, Bromley Cross

Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday to allow electrical work to be carried out in the area. The work will be carried out by Electricity North West and is expected to last until Friday. Motorists are likely to experience a high level of disruption as a result.

Lee Lane, Horwich

The road will be closed from the junction with the Crown Roundabout on Sunday so that United Utilities can carry out repairs to a manhole. The work is expected to be completed the same day.

Chorley New Road, Horwich

Two-way signals will be in place, close to Horwich Fire Station, for eight days starting from today. The work is being carried out by United Utilities and is expected to be completed by Sunday, September 30.

Weston Street

Roadworks are planned for Wednesday to allow work to take place to fix a hydraulic leak. United Utilities are carrying out the work, and it is expected to be completed on the same day.

Plodder Lane, Farnworth

A tiger crossing is being installed, and two-way signals will be in place as a result. The work will begin on Wednesday and is expected to last until Tuesday, October 9. Motorists in the area are likely to experience a high level of disruption.

A lane closure is planned for Wednesday, close to the junction with Cannon Street North. United Utilities are carrying out work to replace a manhole frame, and the work is expected to be completed the same day.

M60 junctions 8 to 18

Overnight resurfacing work is taking place on the M60 to provide smoother journeys for drivers. Parts of the motorway will be closed overnight between 10pm and 5am, Monday to Friday, with clearly-signed diversions in place. The scheme is due to be finished in the winter.

M62 Junctions 10 to 12

Work is taking place to upgrade the M62 to a smart motorway between Warrington and Eccles, converting the hard shoulder to an extra lane and introducing new variable speed limits. Narrow lanes and a temporary 50mph speed limit are in place for the safety of drivers and workers. The scheme is due to be completed in spring 2020.

A56 Grane Road

Overnight – 8pm to 5am – safety work to improvement drainage along the northbound A56 Haslingden bypass started for 3 weeks (Mondays to Fridays only) on Monday (10 September). The work includes some overnight closures of the northbound carriageway between the junctions of A680 Manchester Road roundabout and Todd Hall Road with a signed diversion in place.
