A HEART attack survivor will get on his bike next month in a bid to raise money for charity.

In March of last year, Martin Endacott, from Bury, travelled to hospital with symptoms that had originally been mistaken for indigestion.

After undergoing tests, he was shocked to discover he had actually suffered a heart attack, despite having had no history of heart problems.

Fortunately for Mr Endacott, an angiogram performed at Wythenshawe Hospital found he did not require any further intervention other than medication, and he was discharged to recover at home.

On Saturday, October 6, the 50-year-old will take on the British Heart Foundation’s Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride to support the charity’s life saving research.

Mr Endacott will join about 3,000 other riders in setting off from Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester and take on the 52 mile challenge, heading for the glow of the Blackpool sea front and famous illuminations, which will be left on especially for the occasion.

Mr Endacott, who now lives in Clitheroe, said: “This is a personal challenge for me, I had cycled similar distances before my heart attack and I want to get back to the same level I was at then.

"I was never given an explanation why I had my heart attack, so now so I want to support the British Heart Foundation and the research they do into heart and circulatory disease.

“I’m looking forward to the atmosphere of being part of a large group who are coming together for the same cause, and cycling through the night will be a really different experience.”

The BHF relies on the generosity of its supporters to pay for its research in heart and circulatory disease, including stroke, vascular dementia and the risk factors that cause them, such as diabetes.

In Lancashire alone there are around 179,700 people are living with heart and circulatory disease.

Last year, the Manchester to Blackpool Night Ride raised £110,000, which will go towards helping to better understand how to prevent, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory diseases and beat heartbreak forever.
