A TEENAGER was raped as she walked home from a night out, police have reported.

The 18-year-old woman was attacked in a property off Sackville Street, Manchester, at around 2am yesterday morning.

It is understood that the woman was walking home with friends after a night out in the city centre when they were joined by an unknown man.

The group then continued to walk to the property where, once inside, the man raped her.

Detectives have described the attacker as Asian, slightly under 6 feet tall, of average build and with short, dark comb-over styled hair.

He is also thought to have been wearing dark clothing, and be aged around 19 years old.

A police investigation has since been launched and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Nick Gibson, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “We are doing everything we can to find the man responsible and are supporting the young woman at this incredibly distressing time.

“Although we believe this to be an isolated incident, we are taking this very seriously and you will see extra officers around the area over the coming days.

“We immediately launched an investigation and have been following several lines of enquiry throughout the course of the day including trawling through CCTV footage and door to door enquiries.

“If you recognise the description of the man or have any information that could assist our enquiries, no matter how small it may seem, please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 8564409 quoting incident number 861 of 23/09/2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
