YOU are never too old to learn something new, reckons 90-year-old Bill Gregory who is learning to use computers.

Bill is the oldest member of the weekly computer club at St Pauls community centre, which is helping with his early on set dementia.

Before joining the club, based in Halliwell Road, he had never used a computer before.

Steph Stather, group leader of the computer club, says that the majority of people who attend are there to socialise but Bill also uses it to help to keep his brain active.

The pensioner has one-to-one lessons and is learning to use programmes such as Word and Excel and will soon be learning how to go online using Google and email.

“He’s good company — very friendly, very happy," said Steph.

“He comes on his own at the moment, he doesn’t need a carer.

"Sometimes he comes on the wrong day thinking its computer club, although he’s not the only one doing that.”

At aged 90 Bill is still going strong and keeps up with the rest of group, who are in their 60s and 70s.

The club is held every Thursday from 9.30am until 11.30am.

Around 20 people attend each week and the £2.50 entry includes tea and toast.

Bill also attends other activities at the centre including luncheon club and might be joining the film club.

The computer programme is run completely by volunteers and they are always looking for more help.
