AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl is fighting for her life after she was hit by a car in Great Lever.

The girl was crossing Green Lane at around 8.20am yesterday when a Honda Jazz collided with her.

She suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where she remains in a life threatening condition.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 8.20am to a road traffic collision on Green Lane.

"We have taken a female patient in her early teens to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

"She has suffered major trauma and injuries to her arms. There were initial reports that the girl was trapped by the vehicle but she had been freed by the time we arrived."

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have now launched an investigation into the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Neil Pennington, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision left an 11-year-old girl seriously injured and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that can assist us to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Given the time of day this happened, we believe there will be a number of potential witnesses who may hold key information or have dash cam footage that can assist our enquiries.
