A MAN accused of dangerous driving after two women were badly injured in a collision last year has appeared at Bolton Magistrates Court.

Scott Lomax, aged 29, of Richmond Drive, Leigh, was charged with two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving and made his first appearance in court yesterday.

Magistrates sent the case to Bolton Crown Court where he will next appear on October 22.

The incident, which happened on Sunday, November 26 last year involved a taxi and a car which collided in Bradford Street, not far from the town centre, in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services reached the scene at around 3am. Three women passengers were in the taxi and two of them, Kelly Kenny and Danielle Worthington, were thrown from the vehicle in the impact.

They were taken to hospital suffering serious injuries.

The taxi was believed to have been turning onto the slip road towards the A666 St Peter’s Way at the time of the incident.

Bolton fire station watch manager Tony McKenna, one of the first on the scene, said: “The taxi went into a spin and ended up on the southbound slip road of the A666 St Peter’s Way.

“The other car was on the pavement when we arrived.”

Two fire engines from Bolton were on the scene and the women, in their early thirties, were treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

The male taxi driver, aged 44, received minor injuries and was also treated by paramedics.

Bradford Street was closed overnight between Castle Street and Bridgeman Place, including A666 slip roads, following the crash.

Officers were not able to reopen the street to drivers until 9.30am, when investigations into the crash were complete.
