DOGS are seen as man’s best friend and people treat them as part of the family.
Days out can be determined by dog-friendly locations, and the same is true for holiday and travel.
Some people choose their local pub based on which ones allow pets on the premises.
It is understandable that dog owners are protective of their pets but, equally, those who do not have or want dogs, should be able to go about their business accordingly.
And there are obvious hygiene concerns with animals in restaurants and anywhere food is being prepared.
Now pet lovers are campaigning for dogs to be allowed on the region’s Metrolink tram network, arguing that the pets are already permitted on buses, trains and taxis.
They say that while there are plenty of dog-friendly destinations in the region, getting to them on public transport can be difficult or impossible.
The Metrolink allows guide and assistance dogs, plus dogs and cats being transported from PDSA in Trafford, but no other animals are permitted.
Those behind the campaign have launched a petition calling on Transport for Greater Manchester bosses to rethink the ban, and allow people to travel with their pets.
