A WESTBROOK couple’s car was written off and found with weapons stashed in the boot after the vehicle was left with an airport parking service.

Claire and Paul Sharnok left their Audi with Meet and Greet Manchester Airport Parking when they went on a week’s holiday to Greece at the end of August.

But their car and keys were stolen, despite claims that the vehicle would be kept in a ‘well lit and fenced’ parking lot with CCTV and 24-hour security.

The couple first discovered what had happened when they received a call from police the day before they were due to return home, with the vehicle having been seized in Bury displaying false number plates.

Claire said: “We flew into Corfu and went on to an island called Paxos. It was on the boat journey back from Paxos that we got a call from GMP.

“Paul thought it was a wind-up.”

Upon inspection it was discovered that £25,000 of damage had been caused to the car, with its engine, turbo and interiors affected.

The car has now been written off, with a sledgehammer and crowbar also found stashed in the boot.

Claire added: “It looks like the engine has popped, there was smashed glass all over the inside of the car and the leather seats have all been ripped.

“The value of repairs is estimated at around £25,000, so the car has been written off.

“Luckily the insurance company have taken our claim on board.

“The meet and greet company are not taking any responsibility at all, and they have not done anything about it – they are extremely rude.

“When you phone them it just goes to voicemail and the police have had the same problem.

“People need to know that they should not use this company.”

Meet and Greet Manchester Airport Parking, which charged Claire and Paul £62 for the service, has not responded to our request for a comment.
