The Entertainers – An Evenings’ Entertainment

Farnworth Performing Arts Company

ONCE again, The Entertainers, part for Farnworth Performing Arts Company, excelled as they certainly entertained us with a variety of songs, covering every genre with something for everyone at their annual concert held at Bolton Cricket Club on Green Lane.

With a Fish and Chip Supper thrown in, courtesy of the ever popular Olympus Grill in Bolton, this was a great night with great songs, great singing and great food.

Opening with an invitation to Be Our Guest, we were treated to a rousing version of the Disney classic which set the tone for the rest of the evening. Followed by a Sound of Music section, we were putty in their hands as Conductor Sandra Blyth kept a tight reign of the 18 strong company as they presented a wide range of contemporary and classic numbers.

With notable stunning harmonies and several impressive soloists, this programme hit the right spot as we basked in the delights of many a familiar tune, The Candy Man was presented with an upbeat style, followed by a lilting “It’s a lovely day today”.

In keeping with the ladies fine attire, Razzle Dazzle was delivered with style, causing many a toe to tap. Act One gave the opportunity for soloists Marlene to advise us what happens “When you’re good to Mama”, Sue to “Sway” us rhythmically and Tony as he pleads to Let me Try Again”

As Act Two commences, Together Wherever we go was brilliant which was followed by a poignant “You Raise my up” by Geoff. “Flash Bang Wallop” was cracking whilst the Men’s version of “Moonlight Becomes You” was very impressive, as was Aileen Toole with Sandy Shaw’s classic, Puppet on a String”.

As the second act proceeded, Sue Foster and Aileen Toole provided a perfect “Castle on a Cloud” followed by the company with fabulous “Mamma Mia” section. Fun was had with rendition of Howard Broadbent and Jim Smith’s “Blackpool Belle” while the finale number “Goodbye” from White Horse Inn went down a storm, complete with white flag flying, courtesy of left over white napkins.

This was a very entertaining concert by The Entertainers and here’s to many more from this very talented group who bring entertainment and nostalgia whist at the same time, displaying great vocal ability and a true sense of the feel good factor with their ability to provide entertainment and joy to lots of people in Bolton.
