Sister Act
BCMCS, The Albert Halls,
BCMCS present a fantastic feelgood show that everyone should get to see if they can.
Artistic Director Gary Harvey draws maximum humour from this witty musical, producing an energetic, colourful and thoroughly enjoyable piece of theatre.
MD David Wilson assembles a talented group of musicians that he leads through the lively score with aplomb, and Kat Farrington must have worked for hours producing the wonderfully co-ordinated choreography performed perfectly by cast and chorus. Debbie Wilson’s crew diligently execute impressive scene changes, and lighting and sound are spot on.
Charlotte Greaves is excellent as the sassy, loveable Deloris Van Cartier, as entertaining as Whoopi Goldberg herself in the 1992 film. She is superbly supported by a plethora of engaging characterisations, notably Nadia Parkinson as Sister Mary Roberts, Jo Burton as Sister Mary Patrick, and the crotchety Lee Slater as Sister Mary Lazarus.
It doesn’t stop there. Matthew Gavin displays a lovely singing voice as policeman (and love interest) Eddie, Matthew James provides a great cameo as Monsignor O’Hara, and the trio of hapless gangsters provided by Sam Hill, Alex Latham and Elliot Longworth are a joy.
Irene Lunt gets it just right as appalled Mother Superior, and Gareth Johns is suitably cast as baddie Curtis.
A cracking show. Go see it!
