PLANS for town centre regeneration have focused on new shops and redevelopment, but the scheme also includes housing.

Bolton Council's proposals aim to provide a range of residential options, expanding on the student flats which currently make up most of the area.

The masterplan, part of the authority's 2030 Vision, is expected to include as much as £1 billion of investment.

Following the reveal that home values in the area have risen only slightly since 1995, a Bolton Council spokesman pointed to the plans to show that the organisation is looking to the future.

They said: "Our £1 billion masterplan is designed to shape and transform the future of Bolton’s town centre up to 2030 and beyond.

“Town centres have changed and the masterplan recognises this by remodelling Bolton town centre.

"It focuses on a more concentrated shopping area with a greater diversity of uses and destinations that will encourage people to stay longer and creating employment and housing to attract families, young professionals, older people and students."
