JOHN Carr was remembered and honoured at the Bolton News Business Awards 2018.

Mr Carr, chairman of the iconic Carrs Pasties, who died at the age of 74 earlier this year, was recognised with the Editor's Award, an accolade presented by Bolton News editor Karl Holbrook which celebrates a hugely respected person who has made an outstanding contribution to business in Bolton.

The award was collected on Thursday night by his sons Joe, Matt and Liam.

Joe said: “We are completely humbled, it is honestly overwhelming. He has touched the lives of so many people in Bolton, just quietly getting on with life, making people feel well-respected. You can see that from the reception.

“He believed that everybody needs to work together to become a better society, and he always used his business to make sure it was not about him. He made sure it was all about Bolton.

“He was not one for big celebration. He was just one for helping the person who was next to him, no matter who they are. The amount of people in the room who have come up to me tonight and said they are sorry to hear about my dad. It is unbelievable how many people he knew.

“He feels pretty close today.”
