The M61 has reopened in both directions following a police incident between junction 3 for Kearsley and junction 4 for Farnworth.

Both carriageways stopped after police were called to reports of a woman on the wrong side of a bridge.

Police were called out at around 8:20am and attended shortly after.

Road closures were put in place but have now been cleared.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "The woman is safely with officers now and roads will be reopened."
