THE search is on for a dog to play the lead role in this year's Octagon Theatre's Christmas show.

The theatre has put out a casting call to fill the starring role of Toto in its The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

And open auditions for dogs will take place on Wednesday,October 24 between 5pm and 6pm.

Director Ben Occhipinti said: "We’re looking for a brilliant dog from Bolton to tread the boards alongside our actors and young company for this year’s festive show, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

"Toto the dog is the loyal and loving companion of Dorothy. As Toto will be onstage with Dorothy when she gets swept away by the cyclone to the land of Oz ­—- the dog will need be very calm and relaxed around bright lights and loud noises.”"

The owner will have to to attend every performance of the production between December 4 T December 31. The dog must have a calm and friendly disposition, with the capacity to be comfortable in the presence of audiences of up to 900 people.

As well as a cast of professional actors there will be a company of 10 young actors in the show and so the dog will also need to be good with children. The deadline for applications is 12pm on Monday 22nd October. The show will perform at the Premier Suite, University of Bolton Stadium.
