MEMORIES of wartime Britain will come flooding back for some, while others will experience life during World War Two with Five Saints Amateur Theatre Company's production of "When the Lights Go On Again".

Rehearsals for the play are in their final stages as the cast prepare for the opening night of October 17.

The play centres on family in England during the war years culminating in a VE/VJ day party with the audience feeling the wartime spirit while celebrating with the cast the end of the world war.

Director Paul Cohen said: "This fantastic original show from the pen of Roy Sault is packed full of well known war time songs, and scatted with such scenes as over the garden wall, bread queue and cinema queue, you are guaranteed a laugh a minute.

"The audience are invited to sing along with any, or all, of the songs in the show.

"The audience will laugh and cry and join the family on their way through some difficult times and some fun times."

He added: "It is a very clever observation on the humour that saw the nation through those dark years: school concerts, rationing, the Saturday Night Dance, ARP Wardens, air raids, queues, spam, all get a look in. Then of course there's the Camp Concert complete with Sergeant Major and his motley crew."

Mr Cohen said: "The society presented the show successfully in 2010 and, in-keeping with the anniversary of the First World War, we thought presenting a war time themed show was fitting."

The show starts on Wednesday, October 17 and runs until October 20 at Bolton Little Theatre, with all shows starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be booked through Bolton Little Theatre website or by calling 01204 659199.
