JON Macken hopes an impressive goalless draw at top-of-the-league Runcorn Linnets on Tuesday night can spark his Radcliffe FC to return to winning ways.

Boro suffered four straight defeats before earning a point at the EvoStik West leaders.

That followed a storming start to the season which saw Radcliffe win their first seven matches and draw their eighth.

Manager Macken was not too unhappy with the performance in the first two of the recent defeats but admitted the next two – both at home in the league – were disappointing.

After having his mood changed for the better with the fare on offer from his side at Runcorn, which left Boro in third place in the table, he is now looking for his side to maintain that momentum when ninth-placed Colne visit the Neuven Stadium on Saturday.

"We should have got a result in both of the cup games, so I wasn't too disappointed with those," he said.

"We changed the team a bit for the first of them and got beat on penalties and the second against Curzon Ashton was always going to be tough and we played really well.

"But they were very indifferent performances in the two defeats in the league [against Glossop North End and Skelmersdale United who are both in the bottom three].

"We dropped our performance levels massively in those two games.

"What was really disappointing in those games was we created enough chances to win the games but we couldn't take them.

"In previous games we have been finishing those chances.

"We bounced back with a very very good performance (against Runcorn Linnets).

"It was one of those really entertaining 0-0 draws, a great game of football.

"We have had a little blip and there are going to be a few surprises for everyone in this division because there are a lot of good teams."
