THE grandmother and aunt of the four children killed in a petrol bomb attack in Walkden have spoken of the trauma on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Demi Pearson, aged 15, and her siblings Brandon, aged eight, Lacie, aged seven, and Lia, aged three died after a fire was started at their home in Jackson Street, Walkden on December 11.

The children's mother, Michelle, is still recovering in hospital.

Her mother, Sandra, and sister, Sarah, appeared on the television show on Friday morning, and spoke movingly of the tragedy, often wiping away tears with a tissue.

At the opening of the programme, titled A Family Destroyed, host Jeremy Kyle said it was the most difficult thing he’s ever seen people going through.

He explained that the mother and daughter wanted to appear on the programme to “be the voice that Michelle cannot be”.

Sandra disclosed that, at first, she had been told that everyone got out of the blazing house alive. She also said it was her who gave Michelle the heartbreaking news that four of her children were dead.

However, Sandra said that despite learning the tragic news when she woke from her coma, Michelle was in a state of denial for around six weeks.

“She kept saying ‘bring the kids down next time you come’, ‘who’s looking after them?’ and ‘make sure you give Demi some money’,” explained Sarah.

When asked by Kyle if they thought it might have been best if Michelle had died with her children, Sarah said: “We did think that at the beginning. We just wanted her to be with her children because without the children, it isn’t going to be Michelle.

Sarah also revealed that because Michelle was in a coma for so long she suffered muscle wastage and will need to go to rehab in order to learn how to walk again.

Zak Bolland, 23, of Blackleach Drive, Walkden and David Worrall, aged 25, of Worsley Avenue, Walkden were both found guilty of murder in May.

Courtney Brierley, aged 20, of Worsley Avenue, Walkden was found guilty of manslaughter.

As CCTV footage was shown of Bolland and Worrall buying petrol from a garage for the attack, Sandra could not bear to watch.

Asked by Kyle if the sentences the guilty received was some kind of settlement for the family, Sarah remarked: “No, because they might be in prison but the kids are not here.”
