IT is with great sadness to read the inquest details of Danielle McLoughlin’s death in The Bolton News (October 4).

My heart goes out to his mum, family and friends.

I have dog walked around High Rid Reservoir since the 1980s and on many occasions there have been groups of youngsters — and also not so young — near the gantry where they have been jumping off into the water, or at the other end where the jetty is.

Every time I would stop to warn them of the dangers of the water and to be very careful and to try to discourage them from going into the water.

On every occasion they just laugh, ignore and carry on with an “it won’t happen to me” attitude.

On one occasion many years ago, as I continued along the bank I was shot with a pellet gun in my rear and my leg. Quite painful, but not serious.

I notice on another occasion that there wasn’t a contact telephone number for the United Utilities.

I rang them from home and there has since been a contact number on the board.

I know many other dog walkers and walkers who have spoken to various groups as I have done.

I am sure parents also before their child goes out they are told to be careful.

When it is hot weather and in a group, danger is never seen.
