IF teenager Sophie Ashton doesn’t make it as an award-winning actress, she could always end up being a red-carpet interviewer.

Sophie, aged 13, will be aiming high when she appears in the new prime-time ITV show, The Big Audition.

The show, described as a mix between Britain’s Got Talent and The Job Interview, shows people auditioning for real jobs in the hope of landing a big break.

Sophie hopes to be a BAFTA presenter and was lucky enough to be one of the chosen few selected to take part in the show.

Her mum, Liz, said: “As part of the process, she sent in a video of herself explaining how to make a paper banger. She also had several interviews and delivered a show-and-tell all about Bolton Wanderers.”

She added: “She’s always been a bit of a performer, ever since she was little.”

Sophie, who lives in Lostock and is a pupil at St Joseph’s RC High School, attends classes at the Meladrama Acting School.

Her mum said: “She loves comedy and did a stand-up routine during an open day at The Lowry.”

Busy Sophie also plays for Oxford Grove Girls Football Club and she and her mum will shortly begin presenting their own show on Radio Howson community radio.

The Big Audition, which is narrated by Julie Walters, began on Friday night.

Sophie and her mum are remaining tight-lipped about how she got on in the competition, so readers will have to watch the show to find out.

There will be a further opportunity for local people to prove their entertainment skills before a national audience when auditions for Britain’s Got Talent are held at The Venue Bar in Churchgate on October 11.
